Toon Jans
extremum
'extremum’ consists of a selection of new work and works taken out of previous exhibitions of Toon Jans. When exhibiting he likes to combine the new with older work to zoom out and see the bigger picture of his oeuvre.
‘extremum’ refers to recurring natural themes throughout his work: highs and lows, peaks and ocean floors. As a diver and general nature enthusiast Toon wanders around creating images, processing in the dark room and altering them with other materials.
Toon Jans is a Belgian mixed media artist, diver and nature explorer. Broadly speaking, his work looks at the ways humans interact with their surroundings.
Recurring themes are ecology, conservation and the underwater world. After finishing a masters degree in Printmaking at LUCA School of Arts he started exploring ways to combine different techniques and materials. This mixed media approach allows him to explore the dynamics between the organic and the artificial, ultimately creating pieces that evoke connections and contrasts within our environment.
